MOAP
Rescues Dolphin
Oroquieta
City -- The Misamis Occidental Aquamarine Park (MOAP) Rescue Center
for Dolphins has acquired a dolphin measuring up to a meter that was
allegedly caught by fishermen in the sea surrounding the town of Bacolod,
Lanao del Norte at around ten in the morning on Sunday, 5 September
2004.
The
said dolphin was turned-over by the fishermen to Bacolod Mayor Joselito
Miquiabas which was later turned-over by Mayor Miquiabas to the MOAP
Park Superintendent Jose Satorre. The MOAP Rescue Center for Dolphins
is located at Libertad Bajo, Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental.
Misamis
Occidental Governor Loreto Leo Ocampos lauded the fishermen and the
Local Officials of Bacolod for recognizing and trusting MOAP as a Rescue
Center for Dolphins. "This is a very good development, and 'complimenting
one,' in the sense that the people are now responding to our campaign
of saving the lives of our dolphins and other marine resources in the
Panquil Bay area," Governor Ocampos said.
MOAP
has now a newly established Clinic equipped with the medicines intended
for the treatment and care of dolphins and other marine animals.
Furthermore,
a 'priced' dolphin find that was caught along the shores of Baliangao,
Misamis Occidental recently met a different fate than the one caught
in Bacolod. The said dolphin did not survive long enough because of
its injuries suffered from fishermen's cruelty. The MOAP Rescue Center
for Dolphins requests local fisher folks to inform their office of an
eventual sighting or capture of dolphins so that they may be attended
to immediately. (W. VALLES, Provincial Information Center/K. AOANAN,
