MOAP
Hatchery makes breakthrough
The
Misamis Occidental Aquamarine Park (MOAP) announced that it made a breakthrough
in the culture of lobsters.
Aquamarine
Park Superintendent Jose Satorre revealed in an interview that more
than half a million lobsters that were spawned were already hatched
in the Park’s hatchery. “This is a breakthrough because
it is the first of its kind in the whole Region 10, and probably in
the whole of Mindanao,” Satorre said.
The
hatching of these lobsters is part of the program of the MOAP in the
production and rehabilitation aquamarine and fresh water resources in
the province.
The
MOAP Hatchery Lobster or Banagan Culture was in cooperation and partnership
with the Mindanao State University (MSU) in Municipality of Naawan in
Misamis Oriental which providing the MOAP Hatchery with the sourcing
of the resources, technical assistance, and other additional help.
Misamis
Occidental Governor Loreto Leo Ocampos lauded the new development. The
governor was all praises for the said breakthrough. “I am very
happy with this new development, and I am giving all-out support for
the program particularly with the lobster culture,” Governor Ocampos
said.
To
this date the MOAP Hatchery has already distributed millions of fingerlings
of hito, prawn fry (sugpu), a new variety of tilapia, and a fresh-water
variety of prawns to the different fish pond operators in the province.
A
fish-farmer in Jimenez town has already benefited from this program,
and he had reported that his prawn fry production has already reached
to approximately 1.7 metric tons.
In
addition, the MOAP Hatchery has also made a breakthrough in the reproduction
of fresh water prawns, which is also new to the province and probably
first in the region. Mr. Satorre disclosed that the MOAP Hatchery has
already laid its plan to hatch crabs, and abalones or Kapinan. “We
are already in the phase of looking for and gathering of male and female
abalone pairs,” Satorre said.
