MOAP
takes part in sustainable coastal resources management
With an area of more than 60 hectares, and serving three
major objectives of (1) Aquaculture Production; (2) Conservation; and
(3) Eco-Tourism, the Misamis Occidental Aquamarine Park (MOAP) stands
as one of the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental through the
leadership of the Governor Loreto Leo Ocampos leading programs with
emphasis on environmental protection and conservation.
Gov.
Ocampos emphasized that the sustainable management of the coastal resources
plays a vital role towards economic and environmental well being of
the province.
The Province is blessed with rich natural resources like the Malindang
Mountain Range, and the Panguil Bay. “We should take good care
of every blessing that we have,” Gov. Ocampos has stressed.
To take very good care of these resources, Gov. Ocampos believes that
an effective coastal resources management must be integrated, participatory,
multi-disciplinary, and responsive. This initiative was the brain-child
of the our beloved Governor, putting up a project that would stimulate
and inspire every Misamisnon to be an active defender of the environment.
The initiative came into a reality with the Misamis Occidental Aquamarine
Park. This park spells the sincere intention of the our beloved Governor’s
administration to place the province’s marine eco-systems under
a responsible stewardship for a sustainable development.
The Aquamarine Park’s Aquamarine Production component would further
inspire the enterprising spirit of the Mismisnons to attain a gainful
aquaculture livelihood through the distribution of aquaculture fingerlings
to fish farmers in a designed scheme. The park also boosts the Province’s
eco-tourism potentials.
Governor Leo Ocampos said that in order for the province to achieve
sustainable development, every Misamisnon must take a firm stand to
this environmental call of NOT KILLING the GOOSE that lays the GOLDEN
EGGS.
Often times, many of us fail to realize that our marine ecosystem which
has been devastated due to dynamite fishing and all other forms of illegal
fishing activities is in itself the very GOOSE that lays the golden
egg.
With the MOAP as a new born steward of the environment, the Provincial
Government of Misamis Occidental hopes that each of us would take part
in its call to protect, defend and conserve our marine ecosystem not
only for our children but also for our children’s children.
