GMA
clobbers FPJ in MisOcc
by Karl Imanoel Aoanan
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo won convincingly in
the Province of Misamis Occidental during the May 2004 National Elections.
This
promise was made by Lakas-CMD Provincial Chair and re-elected Governor
Loreto Leo Ocampos who said that “definitely, GMA will win in
our province.”
GMA,
the Lakas-CMD standard bearer, garnered a total of 125,300 votes or
a 55% share of the 225,944 total votes cast for the five (5) presidential
candidates. Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP/Coalition of United
Filipinos) presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr. got only 69,482 votes.
GMA has established a solid margin of 55,818 votes over FPJ.
This
GMA win can be attributed to the solid performance of LAKAS-Christian
Muslim Democrats (CMD) Party members in the province. Fifteen of the
17 mayors who were elected in the whole province belong to the Lakas-CMD
Party.
Arroyo
has already blest the province with projects and fundings to the Misamis
Occidental Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (MODTRC), Misamis
Occidental Aquamarine Park (MOAP), the Provincial Housing Project, and
many others. With GMA’s eventually win in the 2004 National Elections,
the proposed Panguil Bay Bridge Project would not be far from being
finally realized.
“We
have worked really hard to secure this win,” Ocampos added. This
is in response to the notion that FPJ will perform strongly in Mindanao,
and that the MisOcc province is allegedly former President Joseph Estrada’s
Puwersa ng Masa party bailiwick during the 1998 National Elections.
Estrada is one of FPJ’s staunchest supporters.
Meanwhile,
seven (7) administration senatorial candidates won it big in the province
and made it in the magic 12. They are Manuel Roxas II at number 1 with
132,253 votes, Ramon Revilla Jr. at number 3 with 95,552 votes, Pilar
Juliana Cayetano at number 4 with 93,726 votes, Robert Barbers at number
5 with 87,581 votes, Richard Gordon at number 6 with 85,294 votes, Rodolfo
Biazon at number 9 with 72,384 votes, and Miriam Defensor-Santiago at
number 12 with 59,935 votes.
