Volunteers
help plant Mangroves
Close to about a hundred volunteers from a barangay in Ozamiz
City took part in a ‘mangrove planting’ drive of the Provincial
Government during the month of July last year as a response, and a display
of cooperation of the people to the call of our provincial chief executive,
Governor Loreto Leo Ocampos.
The volunteerism
of the residents of Brgy. Catadman-Manabay, Ozamiz City resulted to
a close to 3,000 mangroves planted in the marshlands of the Misamis
Occidental Aquamarine Park (MOAP) in Sinacaban town.
The Governor lauded the warm response and enthusiasm of Misamisnons
to the projects concerning environmental awareness, protection, and
conservation. Gov. Ocampos said: “A key ingredient in the successful
protection and management of our coastal areas is for people to participate
in the process and to take responsibility of their actions.”
This positive
response from Gov. Ocampos’ constituents of Misamis Occidental
is a very good indication that indeed the people are one with the
Governor in his campaign to improve the Province’s Coastal Resources
Management thrust. “The people are indeed very happy that they
were given a chance to take part in this noble task,” Gov. Ocampos
said.
The Governor was very happy of the Catadman-Manabay Volunteers, and
he encourages more Misamisnons to take their part also in the preservation
of our natural resources. “I hope that more of us would help
in this project, and I am praying that the volunteerism displayed
by the Catadman-Manabay people would inspire more of us to take part
in this endeavor,” Gov. Ocampos added.
