The Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental affirms and supports our Constitutional mandate which states that, “The State shall promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions, and amateur sports, including training for international competitions, to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry.” (Art. 14, Sec. 19)
In this connection, the First Lady Governor, Honorable HERMINIA M. RAMIRO, graciously welcomed the guests, participants and athletes to the Opening Program of the 2011 Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental (PGMO) Sportsfest on June 6, 2011 at the Provincial Cultural and Farmers Training Center (PCFTC).
The Sportsfest will be the start of a six-month long athletic marathon which shall culminate on November, during the Pas’ungko Festival in celebration of the Provincial Anniversary. The PGMO employees are divided into different teams composed of the Navy Blue Executives, from the Governor’s, Planning, Budget, Jail, Drug Rehab, Tourism, Library, Gender and Human Resource Offices; the Maroon Builders from the General Services, Engineer’s, and Fire Protection Offices; the Yellow Financiers from the Assessor’s, Social Welfare, Treasury, Accounting, Internal Audit, Audit, and Cooperative Offices; the Green Food Producers from the Agriculture, Enterprise Development and Research, Aquamarine Park, Hoyohoy, Environment and Natural Resources, Veterinary, Agrarian Reform, Agricultural Statistics, and Trade Offices; the White Life Savers from the PGMO-operated hospitals and Red Cross; the Red Peacemakers from the Police, Interior and Local Government, Indigenous Peoples, Deeds, and Election Offices; the Sky Blue Missioners from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Education, Trial Court, Technical Education, Parole and Probation, Science and Technology, and Jail Management; and the last but not the least, the Orange Prime Movers from the Public Works and Highways, Transportation, Irrigation, Civil Service, League of Barangays and Transportation and Franchising Offices.
The teams will be competing against each other on games such as badminton, basketball, volleyball, kick softball, and table tennis and vying for the championship prize to be awarded during the culmination this November.
